The Enchanted Farm House

As Peter walked through the woods on his way to play at his friend Brian’s house, he noticed a tiny barn house through the thick bushes. “That was never there before” he thought. Peter dashed to Brian’s house so he could bring him there and show him. Peter walked up to his door and knocked. “Bang, bang, bang.” He saw the lights turn on so he knew that he was home.

Brian opened up the door and said, “Hi Peter, what’s going on?”

“There is this really rundown barn house in the middle of nowhere”. Peter said.

“What do you mean?, I just walked through the forest thirty minutes ago and all I saw was the trees and birds flying around”.

“Come I’ll show you” Peter told him earnestly.

So Peter and Brian raced through the forest to where Peter had last seen it. They got to the gently flowing river and just followed it down because he knew that the place was right by the river. Brian was almost out of breath because he was slowing down more and more and kept saying “are we there yet? are we there yet?”. Finally, after about ten minutes of Brian slowing them down, Peter said that they were there. They sat down on a rock for a bit to catch their breath. Then both of them looked up. There was nothing there.

“What! Where did the house go? I’m positive that it was right here”. Peter shouted.

“You’re just trying to fool me” Brian said in a crude way. Peter kept on trying to convince Brian to believe him but Brian wouldn’t budge. So he quickly walked through the woods back to his house. Peter watched his so called ‘friend’ as he walked farther and farther away from him. Then seconds later Peter walked back the other way to his house. He takes a quick look behind him just to see if the barn house was really there, and sure enough, it was there. Sitting right beside where both him and Brian just were.

Days went by and Peter kept on trying to convince Brian that there really was a house, but whenever he tried to show it to him it, it was still never there. So Brian became more and more angry and frustrated at him. That’s when Peter knew for sure that he could see it and Brian couldn’t, but he didn’t know why.

One day after school he decided that he should go check out the house. He was almost there and he kept thinking about what might be in it. He was also kind of scared. The stairs creaked as Peter walked up to the door. He was just about to knock but then the door opened. An old lady was there staring at him. He got frightened and jumped back off the stairs. “Don’t be scared young man. My name is Isabelle”.

“Hi, my name is Peter and sorry that I got scared of you”.

“That’s fine” said the old woman. “It happens often to me”.

“Why is it that I can see the house and my friend can’t?” he asked.

“I am magical, kind of like a witch but I’m nice. I put a spell on this house so that only good hearted and open minded kids can see this house. Your friend must not be that, that is why he can not see my house”. Both of them had a big long talk and found out all about each other and then finally Peter said that he had to leave for his house or else he will get in trouble. They both said goodbye and Isabelle said that she would always be here if he needed anything. Peter ran away from the house with a smile on his face. As he went on his way he figured that he shouldn’t mention anything about the house or Isabelle to Brian or else they might not be friends again. But at least Peter knew the secret.

Dear Government                                                                          July 15th 1989

Hi I am 44 years old and my name is Bill Nye the Science Guy. I am a scientist from Light House University in Washington D.C. I have been a scientist for almost 21 years now.

The reason I am writing to you is because there has been a drastic decrease in the salmon population in B.C. in the past year. It had gone done from about 44 million to approximately 22 million. For many years now I have been trying to find out why the salmon population is decreasing. Recently I have figured out why it is decreasing. It is because a lot of the humans in the world are littering and throwing garbage in the rivers. One of the biggest reasons is because people are throwing can cases and plastic bags into the rivers and the salmon and even other river animals are getting there head stuck in them and choking.

I was wondering if you would be willing to give me 10 million dollars so that I can make 20 salmon farms across Canada so that we can keep the salmon population rising. Another thing is that since we are using plastic bags so much then throwing them into the river could you please ban plastic bags from Canada. If we don’t have plastic bags then we can use reusable bags for shopping.
